Users Can Still Read Deleted WhatsApp Messages With a Simple Trick

WhatsApp recently rolled out the much-anticipated ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature for all its Android, iOS, and Windows Phone users. WhatsApp users across the world are actively using the feature, after all, it’s a much-asked feature. However, users can still read the deleted WhatsApp messages with a simple workaround.

The deleted WhatsApp messages aren’t deleted permanently, instead, they’re still present on the smartphone and users can easily access it. A Spanish blog named Android Jefe states that the deleted messages are saved in the notification log of the device, which is the place where the message receiver can access it.

“What we found is that the messages are stored in the notification register of the Android system. So, it’s just a matter of entering that record to see the messages that the other person deleted,” the report said.

So, how to access the deleted messages? That’s very simple. There are two ways to access the deleted messages- the first one is by downloading a third-party application named Notification History, which displays all the notification logs on your smartphone.

The second method is with the help of Nova launcher or any other third-party launcher. All you need to do is head over to widgets section by tapping the home screen, and this notification log widget is present under activities department. You can add a notification log widget by heading over to Widgets > Activities > Settings > Notification Log. If you add a widget, it will be visible on your home screen.

That said, there are some drawbacks to both the methods. You have to check the deleted message without restarting the application, if you restart WhatsApp, then the notification log will be cleared including the deleted message. And the second one is that only first 100 characters of the deleted messages are visible, and not the complete message.

Nevertheless, it’s a good way to keep an eye on the deleted messages. There’s no way WhatsApp could fix this as it’s an Android system level issue. All it should now do it stop notifying users about the deleted message, which they might add in the next update. WhatsApp is yet to respond to all these claims.
